Plant Based products are designed for everyone who menstruates and wants to make more environmentally friendly choices in their everyday life. The range includes a sanitary pad, a night pad, and a pantyliner, all providing a dry and comfortable feeling throughout the menstrual cycle.
The Plant Based range includes three products:
Vuokkoset Plant Based Normal Wings – a plant-based and pleasantly soft pad with wings. Suitable for use on all days of menstruation.
Vuokkoset Plant Based Night Wings – a plant-based, pleasantly soft and long pad with wings. Suitable for nighttime use and for heavier flow.
Vuokkoset Plant Based Normal Liner – a plant-based and pleasantly soft pantyliner. Perfect for everyday use to maintain a fresh feeling.
The top layer of the pads and pantyliners is made of 100% certified organic cotton. The absorbent core is chlorine-free cellulose, and the back sheet is Green PE made from sugarcane. The pad packaging pouch and individual wrappers are also made of Green PE, while the pantyliner packaging is cardboard.
The Vuokkoset Plant Based range is made from natural and renewable raw materials, making it the most environmentally friendly choice throughout its lifecycle compared to equivalent disposable menstrual products made from fossil-based plastics. The top layer is organic cotton, the absorbent core is cellulose fiber, and the back sheet is made from sugarcane-based Green PE.
Plant Based products are made from 89% plant-based materials. The remaining 11% currently come from non-plant-based sources, but we are continuously working to increase the proportion of plant-based materials. Our ultimate goal is 100% plant-based products.

Yes, all Plant Based products are carbon neutral.
No, the Plant Based range is not biodegradable. Neither are the Vuokkoset Cotton or White product ranges. However, all Vuokkoset Bio pads and pantyliners, including their individual wrappers, as well as Vuokkoset Organic tampons, are biodegradable.
Vuokkoset Plant Based pads and pantyliners are made from natural and renewable materials, making them the most environmentally friendly disposable menstrual products throughout their lifecycle compared to fossil-based alternatives. However, they are not biodegradable.
The Vuokkoset Bio range, on the other hand, is fully biodegradable, including the individual wrappers. Used products can be conveniently wrapped in their individual packaging and disposed of in home compost. The outer packaging pouch is made from sugarcane-based Green PE, which is renewable but not biodegradable.
After use, dispose of the pad or pantyliner with mixed waste. The pad packaging pouch and individual wrappers are made of Green PE and can be recycled as plastic. The pantyliner packaging is cardboard and can be recycled with paperboard.
Yes. All Vuokkoset pads, pantyliners, and tampons carry the Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation label for skin-friendliness. The products contain no fragrances, bleaching agents, or other commonly irritating or sensitizing substances.

With our campaign, Vuokkoset aims to normalize the conversation around menstruation. For many people, periods can cause discomfort, yet half of humanity goes about daily life while menstruating. We want to make periods visible, not something to hide, but something to talk about openly and without shame.
We believe there is still a strong taboo surrounding menstruation in society. People rarely talk about it openly, and it is seldom portrayed in media. Yet menstruation is an everyday reality for a large part of the population. By breaking the taboo and speaking about it, we hope to reduce shame and the unnecessary secrecy surrounding periods. Menstruation is a source of strength, something to be proud of.
By showing models in underwear with visible menstrual pads, we aim to normalize period-related imagery and remove shame around the topic. We believe it is completely normal to see underwear with a visible pad inside. Still, many people feel that anything related to menstruation should be hidden. Vuokkoset believes there is nothing to hide or be ashamed of, not about periods and not about women’s bodies. The women in our advertisements appear as their natural selves, empowered and unretouched.
